At GCBS we want all our children to experience success and enjoy their learning whilst at school. We aim to achieve this through high standards of learning and teaching within a happy, structured and caring environment.
Teaching methods are deployed to ensure that children receive personalised learning in both ability-based or mixed ability classes. As a result of this individualised learning approach, it is quite common for children to be learning different things and at different rates compared to other children in the same or different class.
The Cambridge Primary is an established enquiry based world class curriculum. The Cambridge Primary English, Maths and Science teaching frameworks are fundamental within our curriculum but we also incorporate into our curriculum the rich and exciting UK National Curriculum areas of History, Geography Arts, Design, IT, Music and Physical and Health Education.
The Cambridge Primary Curriculum is supported by text books. However, to ensure breath and balance within the curriculum our planning is not text book led. We use a variety of resources from a wide range of sources to support student learning both inside and outside the classroom. We plan topics carefully so continuity and progression are smooth and aid development. Cross-curricular topics enable us to identify skills, concepts, knowledge and ideas from individual subjects and bring them together in a cohesive way.
Every student and parent in KG2, Grades1 - 5 receives a Monthly Curriculum Newsletter outlining the topics and content being covered. In addition, students in KG2 and Grade 1 receive a Weekly Overview clarifying the learning focus for that period. KG2 Grade1- 5
